Our BlackBerry International ChatGPT Research was a fast-turnaround project conducted in January 2023. BlackBerry were interested in assessing how IT decision makers across the globe felt about the emerging artificial intelligence chatbot, ChatGPT, and the implications this technology may have on cybersecurity.

 

The Research

After some initial desk research, OnePoll worked with the team at BlackBerry on questionnaire design to produce a 10-question survey that was translated into French and German alongside the English version. This was then completed online by 2500 IT decision makers across the UK, US, Canada, Australia, France, and Germany. Cross breaks were provided for age, gender, and region.

The Result

Following data analysis, the results were compiled into six individual Excel reports covering each market, as well as six individual executive summaries that detailed the key insights and topline findings. The results of the BlackBerry International ChatGPT Research found that, although 59% of IT decision makers felt ChatGPT would generally be used for good, 66% were concerned that ChatGPT would be used for malicious purposes in terms of cybersecurity with over half (51%) of IT decision makers from across UK, Canada, UK & Australia, believing there would be a successful, ChatGPT credited cyberattack within the year. The research data also identified a significant desire for AI-driven cybersecurity technology specifically to combat the potential threat caused by ChatGPT, with 78% of respondents indicating that this would be something they’d consider investing in within the next 2 years.

OnePoll reviewed BlackBerry’s press release before this was shared with media outlets in February 2023, to ensure that the stats and insights had been presented correctly. Blackberry were delighted with the coverage they were able to secure across a number of their top target titles, including Forbes, Computing, Infosecurity Magazine , CSO, and TechRadar. BlackBerry also expressed an interest in running the research again at the next topical opportunity.
