The Objective
In 2023, OnePoll was contacted by ITV who were aiming to understand the nation’s attitudes towards the junior doctor strikes that were planned to take place in late 2023/ early 2024, as well as the extent to which people were being directly affected by them.
The Research
As such, OnePoll conducted an online survey with a demographic of 2000 British adults (Nationally Representative on the basis of age/gender/region) with data splits by age, gender and region. The data elicited was weighted in order to ensure accurate representation of each demographic group relative to the proportions they appear in the target population.
The Result
- 43% of people surveyed support the junior doctor strikes in January, whilst 36% do not support it.
- Just under a third (31%) said they had become less sympathetic over the past 12 months
- 22% have been personally affected or had a close relative who has been affected by the strikes.
- Of the 13% of people surveyed who said they had been personally impacted, 60% have had an appointment or procedure cancelled.
- 17% of people surveyed said they had a close relative who had been personally impacted by the junior doctors’ strike in January 2024 in regard to medical treatment needed for them.
The project’s final outputs included a results table in Excel and an Executive Summary report that emphasized the main discoveries and key insights.
ITV used the junior doctor strikes insights of this exclusive public opinion poll to headline the morning news feature for Good Morning Britain.
